
Hindi is an Indo-Aryan branch of the Indo-European languages. It was formerly known as Hindustani, but today it's referred to as Hindi and is of course linked with Urdu. Hindi is spoken primarily in northern and central India by more than 180 million people and is used in conjunction with English as the official state language. Around 300 million people speak Hindi as second language and is related to hundreds of other dialects in addition to being the 5th most widely spoken language in the world.
